Moscow APR - Home Page
The Moscow APR is a cycle road race held on a circuit near Kilmarnock in East Ayrshire. An APR, or Australian Pursuit Race, is run on a handicapped basis with competitors being set off in a few ability related groups. Each group is set off a minute or more ahead of the one behind with the 'scratch group' containing the faster riders going last.
If the handicapper has done his/her job right, each group will catch the one in front with everyone having a chance to challenge for the win in the latter part of the race.
Appeal for Information
Moscow APR on 6th March – Appeal for information relating to complaints from a member of the public.
As you should be aware from my appeal at the race HQ, a member of the public has made complaints regarding the above event.
The first complaint is that he had significant difficulty getting his van into the roadway to his home due to a vehicle, later found to be that of a spectator, restricting the roadway. He advised that this has happened on previous occasions and is something we need to be aware of and to deal with.
Having gained access, he returned and an argument developed between himself and the driver. This escalated to involve competitors / cyclists and led to the much more serious complaint that he was spat upon by one of these. I hope you will agree with me, that spitting on someone is completely unacceptable and one of the most inflammatory actions possible.
I am seeking your assistance in providing information relating to this. Please do not respond simply to pass an opinion – ONLY IF YOU HAVE RELEVANT INFORMATION.
It is my intention that all information relevant to this complaint will be forwarded to Scottish Cycling for their investigation.
My contact details are on the race website or, should you prefer, you can pass information directly to Scottish Cycling.
Please be fully aware that incidents such as this have the potential to cause lasting damage to our attempts to promote road racing safely and successfully in the future.
